This week's Covid-19 statistics in Asia show that most countries have recorded a decrease in the number of deaths, a reversal from the previous period where death tolls continued to rise. This week, three countries still recorded an increase in deaths, while ten others recorded fewer deaths than the previous week.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Lebanon, India, Taiwan, South Korea, and the Philippines. The total number of deaths in these five countries as of Saturday, February 18, 2023, was 669, with a weekly growth rate above -18 percent.
Lebanon recorded the highest increase in Covid-19 deaths in Asia, with weekly growth reaching 71.43 percent. Worldometer recorded 12 deaths in the country, a 33.33 percent increase compared to the previous day.
Next is India, which recorded 40 percent more deaths than the previous week. The number of deaths in the country was reported as seven, higher than the five deaths recorded the previous week. Deaths in Taiwan increased by 0.93%, South Korea recorded 135 deaths (down 6.9%), and deaths in the Philippines decreased by 18%.
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the past seven days in Asia occurred in Japan, with 1,072 deaths. Death reports in this country decreased by 20.24% compared to the previous week. Following Japan, Taiwan reported the highest number of deaths with 433 (up 0.93%), South Korea with 135 deaths (down 6.9%), the Philippines with 82 deaths (down 18%), and Indonesia with 26 deaths (down 18.75%).
Total deaths in Asia over the past seven days were recorded at 1,844. This accounts for 32.04 percent of global deaths caused by the Covid-19 virus, totaling 5,755. The number of deaths in Asia decreased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 2,188 deaths.
