Indonesia's 10 Most Sustainable Cities, Kediri Takes the Crown

Based on the 2023 Green City Metric compiled by the University of Indonesia (UI) team, Kediri is the most sustainable city nationally.

The UI Green City Metric measures a city's sustainability level based on six major indicators: spatial planning and infrastructure; energy and climate change; waste and waste management; water governance; access and mobility; and governance.

As a result, Kediri City obtained a total score of 7.015 points, the highest among the 58 cities/regencies researched.

Of the 10 cities with the highest scores, the majority, or 6 cities, are located in East Java.

2. Surabaya (East Java): 6.830 points
3. Madiun (East Java): 6.790 points
4. Blitar (East Java): 6.595 points
5. Pariaman (West Sumatra): 6.385 points
6. Semarang (Central Java): 6.245 points
7. Banjarbaru (South Kalimantan): 6.030 points
8. Pasuruan (East Java): 5.970 points
9. Padang (West Sumatra): 5.950 points
10. Mojokerto (East Java): 5.945 points
