The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 5.89 million cases by Tuesday, October 11, 2022. Egypt ranks first, with a 46.61 percent weekly increase in Omicron cases. GISAID recorded 865 new Omicron cases in the country. Daily cases in this region increased by 0.58 percent compared to the previous day.
Following Egypt is Saint Kitts and Nevis, with a 14.29 percent weekly growth in Omicron cases. The country reported 16 new Omicron cases. Daily statistics show a 14.29 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous day, which recorded 14 cases.
Next is Ghana, with 1,338 additional Omicron cases (a 12.53% increase), Russia with a 12.25 percent increase to 16,193 cases compared to the previous week, and Puerto Rico with 8,925 additional Omicron cases (a 10.1% increase).
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases stands at 23,673, showing a 0 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
