This week's Covid-19 statistics in Asia show that most countries have recorded a decrease in the number of deaths, a reversal from the previous period where death tolls continued to rise. This week, five countries still recorded an increase in deaths, while 23 other countries recorded deaths but in smaller numbers.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Kazakhstan, Bangladesh, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and India. The total deaths in these five countries as of Friday, September 16, 2022, amounted to 469, with a weekly growth of over 1.27 percent.
Kazakhstan ranks first, with a 300 percent increase in weekly deaths. In this country, Worldometer recorded four deaths, an increase compared to the previous week's report of only one death.
Bangladesh follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, deaths in this country grew by 40 percent. Yesterday's daily death toll in this country was recorded at seven. Deaths in Hong Kong increased by 7.35%, Taiwan recorded 225 deaths (up 2.27%), and India recorded 160 deaths (up 1.27%).
Looking at the number of death reports, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Asia occurred in Japan, with 1,410 deaths. Death reports in this country decreased by 28.06% compared to the previous week. Following Japan, South Korea recorded 344 deaths (down 21.28%), the Philippines recorded 249 deaths (down 27.19%), Taiwan recorded 225 deaths (up 2.27%), and India recorded 160 deaths (up 1.27%).
Total deaths in Asia over the past seven days were recorded at 3,029. This accounts for 27.99 percent of global deaths caused by the Covid-19 virus, totaling 10,823. The death toll in Asia decreased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 3,933 deaths.
