The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 6.03 million cases by Wednesday, March 8, 2023. According to GISAID data, the United States recorded the highest number of Omicron cases, with 2.27 million cases. This represents 37.57 percent of the total global Omicron cases.
The United Kingdom reported a 0.28 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous week. Daily data shows a 0.05 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous day.
Germany reported 542,200 Omicron cases (a 0.55% increase), Japan saw a 0.66 percent increase to 390,180 cases compared to the previous week, and France reported a 0.29 percent increase to 339,090 cases compared to the previous week.
As of today, Indonesia has recorded 34,622 Omicron cases, a 0.44 percent increase from the previous day. Since its initial detection, the number of Omicron cases in Indonesia has steadily risen.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is advised to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
