International Tourist Arrivals in November 2018 Down 11%

The number of foreign tourist arrivals (FTAs) in Indonesia in November 2018 decreased by 11.26% to 1.15 million visits compared to the previous month. However, compared to the same month of the previous year, it showed an increase of 8.16%. Meanwhile, cumulatively for the period (January-November) of last year, it grew by 11.63% compared to the same period in 2017.

This decrease in FTA arrivals marks the fourth consecutive month of decline after reaching a record high of 1.54 million visits in July 2018. The decrease in foreign tourists to Indonesia was triggered by a drop in FTA arrivals through Ngurah Rai Airport (Bali) by 21.07% and through Soekarno-Hatta Airport (Jakarta) by 15.51%. Besides seasonal factors, the decline in FTA visits was also due to natural disasters such as those that occurred in Lombok and Palu some time ago.

Foreign tourist arrivals to Indonesia using air transportation reached 708,000 visits (61%) of the total. Arrivals via sea routes totaled 261,000 visits, and those via land routes totaled 181,000 visits (16%). Malaysian tourists led arrivals to Indonesia, recording 186,000 visits (16.23%) of the total visits in November 2018.
