Indonesian passport holders can now visit 72 countries visa-free as of Q3 2022, according to the Henley Passport Index released by Henley & Partners. This achievement places the Indonesian passport as the 6th strongest in Southeast Asia.
Singapore ranks first in Southeast Asia, with its passport holders enjoying visa-free access to 192 countries.
Malaysia is second in Southeast Asia with visa-free access to 179 countries. Next is Brunei Darussalam in third place in the region, with visa-free access to 166 countries.
Timor Leste and Thailand are ranked fourth and fifth in Southeast Asia, respectively. Timor Leste has visa-free access to 94 countries, and Thailand to 79.
Below Indonesia are the Philippines and Vietnam, with visa-free access to 67 and 55 countries, respectively.

Meanwhile, Japan ranks first globally with visa-free access to 193 countries.
With visa-free access, passport holders do not need to process or pay for a visa before departure. Visas can be obtained on arrival or by using an electronic travel authorization (ETA).
The Henley Passport Index ranks the strength of countries' passports based on the number of destinations accessible without a visa. The ranking is based on exclusive data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), supplemented by research from Henley & Partners' Research Department.
