The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 6.09 million cases by Wednesday, March 1, 2023. The Bahamas recorded the highest increase in Omicron cases, with weekly growth reaching 9,600 percent. GISAID recorded 97 new Omicron cases in the country. Daily cases in this region increased by 9,600 percent compared to the previous day.
The Republic of the Congo follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, Omicron cases in this country increased by 12.2 percent. 184 new Omicron cases were reported. Daily statistics show a 12.2 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous day, which recorded 164 cases.
Next, the Philippines reported 13,420 new Omicron cases (a 6.92% increase), Costa Rica with 7,550 new Omicron cases (a 6.13% increase), and China (PRC) saw a 4.08 percent increase in Omicron cases, reaching 15,804 compared to the previous week.
In Indonesia, as of today, 34,469 Omicron cases have been recorded, a 0.01 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
