The Indonesian government has revoked the implementation of Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM) in handling Covid-19. However, findings from the Indonesian Survey Institute (LSI) show that the majority, or 77.5%, of Indonesian citizens still consider it important to use masks to this day.
This choice aligns with the appeal from President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) who continues to request that people use masks in public places even though the PPKM regulations are no longer in effect.
"It seems that the public agrees with the caution conveyed through the President's message," said LSI Executive Director Djayadi Hanan in a press conference on Sunday (January 22nd).
In detail, 23.1% of the public consider the use of masks to be very necessary. Furthermore, 54.4% say that the use of masks is quite necessary.
On the other hand, 19.6% of the public believe that masks are no longer necessary. The breakdown shows 9.5% stating masks are less necessary and 10.1% stating they are very unnecessary. The remaining 3% of respondents did not answer or did not know.
The LSI survey also found that the majority, or 30.9%, of respondents always or quite often (26.7%) use masks in public places or outdoors. However, there were also respondents who said they rarely (30.2%) and very rarely (10.7%) use masks outdoors.
The survey was conducted from January 7-11, 2023, involving 1,221 respondents aged 17 years and older or who are married. The survey was conducted using the *random digital dialing* method, selecting samples through a random telephone number generation process. This survey has a *margin of error* of 2.9% with a 95% confidence level.
