The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 1.88 million cases by Sunday, March 6, 2022. Montenegro ranks first, with a weekly increase in Omicron cases growing by 347.62 percent. GISAID recorded 94 new Omicron cases in the country. Daily cases in this region decreased by 1.05 percent compared to the previous day.
Sweden follows with a weekly growth in Omicron cases reaching 190.12 percent. Daily Omicron case numbers in Sweden decreased by 0.82 percent compared to the previous day, which recorded 23,056 cases.
Next, Japan reported 34,984 new Omicron cases (a 176.79% increase), Malaysia saw a 69.15 percent increase to 1,727 cases compared to the previous week, and India reported 22,245 new Omicron cases (a 43.66% increase).
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, 7,293 new Omicron cases were recorded, a decrease of 0.01 percent compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continuously increased.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant against the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
