COVID-19 data statistics in Europe this week still depict a concerning situation, with high death tolls remaining in most countries. This week, 19 countries recorded an increase in deaths, while 16 others recorded fewer deaths than the previous week.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Malta, Estonia, Turkey, the Czech Republic, and Belgium. The total deaths in these five countries as of Friday, July 8, 2022, amounted to 80, with a weekly growth exceeding 95 percent.
Malta ranks first, with a 300 percent increase in weekly deaths. Worldometer recorded 12 deaths in this country, up from three the previous week.
Next is Estonia, which recorded a 166.67 percent increase in deaths compared to the previous week. The number of deaths in this country was reported as eight, up from three the previous week. Turkey recorded 13 deaths (up 116.67%), the Czech Republic saw a 100% increase in deaths, and Belgium recorded 39 deaths (up 95%).
Looking at the number of reported deaths, Germany had the highest number of deaths in Europe over the past seven days, with 522 deaths. Death reports in this country decreased by 17.01% compared to the previous week. Following Germany, Italy recorded 476 deaths (up 23.32%), the UK recorded 473 deaths (up 0.42%), France recorded 363 deaths (up 36.98%), and Russia recorded 342 deaths (down 14.71%).
A total of 3,177 deaths were recorded in Europe over the past seven days. This accounts for 33.48 percent of global deaths caused by the COVID-19 virus, totaling 9,489 deaths. The number of deaths in Europe increased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 2,943 deaths.
