Drug abuse and trafficking cases not only ensnare the general public but also public officials and police officers.
The latest case involves Inspector General of Police Teddy Minahasa, who was named a suspect last Friday (14/10/2022) by the Jakarta Metro Police for allegedly being involved in the trafficking of 5 kilograms of methamphetamine.
The Director of Drug Investigation at the Jakarta Metro Police, Senior Commissioner Mukti Juharsa, stated that 3.3 kilograms of methamphetamine evidence had been secured, while the remaining 1.7 kilograms were allegedly sold by a police officer with the initials DG to Kampung Bahari, North Jakarta.
According to the National Narcotics Agency (BNN), the price of methamphetamine on the Indonesian market can reach Rp3.5 million per gram, while the cheapest price is Rp700,000 per gram.
The price of this type of drug is far higher than marijuana, whose highest price is only Rp100,000 per gram and the lowest is Rp1,300 per gram.
In 2021, the BNN also uncovered the most methamphetamine cases, namely 22,950 cases, while only 2,105 marijuana cases were uncovered.
This indicates that methamphetamine has many users in Indonesia despite its high price.
