Jakarta's waste management problems resurfaced when the Jakarta Provincial People's Representative Council (DPRD DKI Jakarta) invited Surabaya Mayor Tri Risma Harini to assist in resolving the issue. A member of the DPRD DKI Jakarta, Bestari Barus, stated that Jakarta's waste management budget is Rp 3.7 trillion.
This waste management budget is included in the Jakarta Environmental Agency (DLH) budget, which reached Rp 3.49 trillion in the 2019 DKI Jakarta Regional Budget (APBD). Since 2017, the budget for the Jakarta Integrated Waste Management Unit (UPST) has steadily increased. According to the DKI Jakarta APBD website, the UPST budget in 2017 was Rp 186.5 billion. This figure then increased by 68% to Rp 314.4 billion in 2018.
In 2019, the UPST budget surged by 276% to Rp 1.18 trillion. The largest portion of the 2019 UPST budget, Rp 750 billion, was allocated to the procurement of the Jakarta Intermediate Treatment Facility (ITF).
For information, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government plans to build four ITFs, with one currently under construction in 2019. The remaining three ITFs are targeted to be operational by 2022. The procurement of these ITFs is due to the capacity of the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Disposal Site (TPST) being full.
