The first report of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak recorded by the World Health Organization (WHO) appeared on January 20, 2020. At that time, only 282 cases were confirmed, with 278 of them originating from China. By March 1st, the total number of confirmed cases globally reached 87,137.
The peak increase in the number of coronavirus patients occurred in the fifth week, from February 17th to 23rd, 2020. During that period, the number of identified cases increased by 26,954, or 88.5 percent.
Efforts to combat the coronavirus outbreak were undertaken by several countries, resulting in a gradual decrease in cases. In the sixth week, the number of infected people increased by only 8,326 confirmed cases, a decrease of 69.1 percent from the previous week. This proves that the handling of this case is starting to show results.
