The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 5.72 million cases by Saturday, October 29, 2022. According to GISAID data, the United States recorded the highest number of Omicron cases, with 1.85 million cases. This represents 32.43 percent of the total global Omicron cases.
The United Kingdom follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, the number of Omicron cases in the UK grew by 0.56 percent. Daily figures show a 0.03 percent increase compared to the previous day, which recorded 1.33 million cases.
Germany reported 465,440 Omicron cases (a 1.59% increase). Denmark saw a 1.23 percent increase to 311,470 cases compared to the previous week, and France reported a 1.34 percent increase to 288,040 cases compared to the previous week.
In Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases reached 25,163, a 0.18 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since its initial detection, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is advised to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
