The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 3.61 million cases by Saturday, June 11, 2022. Anguilla recorded the highest increase in Omicron cases, with weekly growth reaching 29.17 percent. GISAID recorded 31 new Omicron cases in the country. Daily cases in this region increased by 29.17 percent compared to the previous day.
Taiwan followed with a weekly Omicron case growth of 28.3 percent. 68 new Omicron cases were reported in the country. Daily statistics show an 11.48 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous day, which recorded 61 cases.
Next, the increase in Omicron cases in Serbia rose by 28.21 percent to 300 cases compared to the previous week; in Turkey, it increased by 17.12 percent to 12,952 cases compared to the previous week; and in Aruba, it increased by 16.33 percent to 171 cases compared to the previous week.
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases reached 11,583, a 0.8 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
