A Center for Indonesian Policy Studies (CIPS) report states that the average Indonesian's food consumption for energy sufficiency is still not ideal.
This refers to various food groups with diverse nutritional content, including carbohydrates and proteins. This food diversity is actually incorporated into the Recommended Food Pattern (Pola Pangan Harapan or PPH) program initiated by the Ministry of Health, recently known as 'Isi Piringku' (Fill My Plate).
Borrowing from Anwar and Hardinsyah's 2014 research, CIPS explains that the PPH score is measured from nine food groups: grains, tubers, animal products, oils and fats, vegetable oils and fruits, legumes, sugar, vegetables and fruits, and others.
CIPS states that a maximum score of 100 reflects an ideal combination of a healthy and nutritious diet. To date, the national PPH score has increased from 2015 to 2020, indicating an improvement in the diversity of Indonesian people's food consumption.
"Despite this increase, consumption of several food groups (as a percentage of the Adequate Energy Intake, AKE) is still less than ideal," writes CIPS in its report.
CIPS explains that grains contribute an average of 59.68% of energy per person per day. This figure is higher than the ideal benchmark of 50%. Oils and fats contribute 11.77%, also higher than the ideal limit of 10%.
Food groups with insufficient contributions include animal products, at 10.55% versus the ideal 12%. Additionally, vegetables and fruits stand at 4.90%, below the ideal 6%.
The data presented is processed from the Ministry of Agriculture's 2021 data. This research was published in January 2023 under the title *Policy Paper No. 54: Policy Barriers to a Healthier Diet, The Case of Trade and Agriculture*.
Its aim is to analyze Indonesian trade and agricultural policies and their barriers to achieving a healthy diet lifestyle.
