Healthcare workers are on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic response. During the two years of the pandemic, many of them perished while carrying out their duties due to direct contact with patients infected with the Corona virus.
According to the Directorate General of Population and Civil Registration (Dukcapil) of the Ministry of Home Affairs, as of December 31, 2021, the Indonesian population with the occupation of healthcare worker totaled 567,910 individuals. This figure represents only 0.21% of Indonesia's total population of 273.87 million.
Provinces with the Highest Number of Healthcare Workers
As of December 31, 2021, the highest number of individuals with healthcare worker status resided in West Java province, reaching 84,994 individuals. This number is approximately 0.18% of the total population of West Java, which is 48.22 million.
The next province with the highest number of medical personnel is East Java, with 74,157 individuals (0.18%). This is followed by Central Java with 68,646 medical personnel (0.18%), DKI Jakarta with 40,902 (0.36%), and North Sumatra with 36,038 (0.24%).
Following these are Banten with 23,492 medical personnel (0.2%), Aceh with 21,179 (0.4%), South Sumatra with 21,061 (0.25%), and Riau and South Sulawesi with 17,846 (0.27%) and 16,805 (0.18%) respectively.
