These are the Common Symptoms Experienced by Suspected Acute Hepatitis Patients in Indonesia

A report from the Indonesian Ministry of Health shows a number of common symptoms in patients suspected of having acute hepatitis in Indonesia. The majority, or 78.6% of patients, experienced fever and loss of appetite.

Other common symptoms experienced by patients suspected of having acute hepatitis in Indonesia include vomiting (71.4%), nausea (64.3%), and jaundice (57.1%).

Some patients also experienced changes in urine color, such as tea-colored urine, and abdominal pain (50% each).

Furthermore, 42.9% of patients experienced acute diarrhea. Other symptoms included malaise/lethargy and shortness of breath (28.6% each), pale-colored feces (21.4%), and itching (7.1%).

The latest news reports that the Ministry of Health reported 14 suspected cases of acute hepatitis domestically as of May 17, 2022. The majority, or 7 cases, were in children under 5 years old.

The Indonesian Pediatrician Association (Ikatan Dokter Indonesia or IDAI) urges the public to take preventive measures, including washing hands, consuming clean and cooked water and food, and properly disposing of feces and disposable diapers.

Prevention can also be achieved by using individual eating utensils, wearing masks, and maintaining physical distance.
