Nearly Half of Jakarta's Elderly Experienced Health Complaints in 2020

Based on a report by the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), almost half or 48.49% of the elderly population in DKI Jakarta experienced health complaints in 2020. Health complaints among elderly women reached 50.43%, higher than elderly men at 46.39%.

According to regency/city, Central Jakarta had the highest percentage of elderly people experiencing health complaints, at 61.37% in 2020. This was followed by West Jakarta with 57.21%.

48.27% of the elderly in North Jakarta also experienced health complaints. Then, 40.61% of the elderly in South Jakarta experienced health complaints. Meanwhile, the percentage was only 35.12% in the Thousand Islands.

The proportion of elderly people experiencing health complaints and self-treating reached 73.67%. Meanwhile, the elderly experiencing health complaints and undergoing outpatient treatment amounted to 54.88%.

Health complaints refer to a state of physical or mental health problems, whether due to frequently experienced illnesses, acute illnesses, chronic illnesses resulting from accidents, crime, or other causes. Health complaints encompass both physical and psychological aspects.
