The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 4.69 million cases by Saturday, September 3, 2022. According to GISAID data, the United States recorded the highest number of Omicron cases, with 1.62 million cases. This represents 34.64 percent of the total global Omicron cases.
The United Kingdom follows with a weekly growth in Omicron cases of 0.23 percent. Daily figures show a 0.03 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous day, reaching 1.29 million cases.
Furthermore, Omicron cases in Denmark increased by 1.16 percent to 282,090 compared to the previous week; in France, cases rose by 1.41 percent to 264,560; and in Japan, cases increased by 5.66 percent to 196,660.
In Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases reached 21,088, a 2.86 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since its initial detection, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is advised to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
