After reaching its highest record in December 2021 due to the Christmas holidays and numerous Meeting, Incentive, Conference, and Exhibition (MICE) activities, the Hotel Occupancy Rate (HOR) for star-rated hotels decreased at the beginning of 2022.
The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded the HOR for star-rated hotels in January 2022 at 42.43%, a decrease of 9.14 points compared to December 2021, which reached 51.57%.
The decrease in HOR was recorded in almost all provinces, with the largest decrease in West Sulawesi at 23.78 points. Meanwhile, the lowest decrease in HOR was recorded in East Kalimantan at 1.84 points.
However, one province recorded an increase in HOR compared to the previous month, namely Maluku, which increased by 0.97 points.
In January 2022, the highest HOR was recorded in East Kalimantan at 60.78%. Meanwhile, West Sulawesi had the lowest HOR at 11.86%.
The HOR for star-rated hotels in January 2022 increased by 12.08 points compared to the HOR in January 2021.
The trend of HOR for star-rated hotels has fluctuated during the Covid-19 pandemic. At the beginning of the pandemic, in March 2020, the HOR fell to 32.24%, then reached its lowest point in April 2020 at 12.67%.
The HOR then gradually increased to 40.79% in December 2020, but fell again when Covid-19 cases increased in July-August 2021.
Then in September 2021, the HOR began to recover as Covid-19 cases decreased and community activities were gradually relaxed. The HOR reached its peak in December 2021 at 51.57%.
