Nutritionally poor food, or junk food, is likely familiar to Indonesian palates. Besides being readily available, junk food in Indonesia is also appealing.
Although junk food is detrimental to health, Indonesians tend to favor it. Unsurprisingly, many Indonesians consume junk food on various occasions, from breakfast and snacks to dinner.
One of the most popular junk foods among Indonesians is fried food. Based on a survey by Litbang Kompas, the majority, or 45.7%, of Indonesians enjoy fried food. Besides fried food, Indonesians also like instant noodles, with a percentage of 43.1%.
Then, 21.7% of Indonesians enjoy junk food in the form of bread, burgers, and pizza. Furthermore, 19.6% of respondents said they like frozen food.
There were also respondents who liked baked goods and chips, with percentages of 8% each. This is followed by respondents who like canned food (3.6%), offal (1%), and pickles or preserves (0.5%). Meanwhile, 3.4% of respondents said they didn't know what kind of junk food they preferred.
This survey was conducted on 1,002 respondents aged 17 and above from 34 provinces. The survey, conducted from March 7-12, 2022, used a simple random sampling method with a margin of error of ± 3.10% and a 95% confidence level.
