This week's COVID-19 statistics in the Americas still depict a concerning situation, with high death tolls remaining in most countries. Nine countries recorded increased deaths this week, while seven others saw a decrease in the number of deaths.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Ecuador, Uruguay, El Salvador, Guyana, and the United States. The total deaths in these five countries as of Friday, July 15, 2022, amounted to 2,180, with a weekly growth exceeding 37.51 percent.
Ecuador ranks first, with a weekly increase in deaths growing by 233.33 percent. In this country, Worldometer recorded 20 deaths, a 4.76 percent increase compared to the previous day.
Uruguay follows with a weekly growth in deaths reaching 66.67 percent. Daily death figures in this country decreased by 37.5% compared to the previous day, which recorded 16 deaths.
Next is El Salvador with 14 deaths (up 55.56%), Guyana with a 50% increase in deaths, and the United States with 2,130 deaths (up 37.51%).
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the Americas over the past seven days occurred in the United States, with 2,130 deaths. Death reports in this country increased by 37.51% compared to the previous week. Following this, Brazil recorded 1,720 deaths (up 3.61%), Mexico recorded 333 deaths (up 28.57%), Chile recorded 238 deaths (down 0%), and Peru recorded 123 deaths (down 2.38%).
Total deaths in the Americas over the past seven days reached 4,828. This accounts for 44.46 percent of global deaths caused by the COVID-19 virus, totaling 10,860. The death toll in the Americas increased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 4,207 deaths.
