The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 6.57 million cases by Saturday, June 24, 2023. Ukraine ranks first, with a weekly increase in Omicron cases of 10.72 percent. GISAID recorded 2,965 new Omicron cases in the country. Daily cases in this region increased by 2.49 percent compared to the previous day.
Following Ukraine is Hungary in second place. Compared to the previous week, Omicron cases in this country increased by 7.34 percent. A total of 468 new Omicron cases were reported. Daily statistics show a 7.34 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous day, which recorded 436 cases.
Next is Australia, with 157,430 new Omicron cases (a 6.8% increase). New Omicron cases in Cambodia increased by 3.39 percent to 1,889 compared to the previous week, and new Omicron cases in Guatemala increased by 2.84 percent to 3,333 compared to the previous week.
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, the number of new Omicron cases recorded to date is 38,420, a 0.23 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges all parties to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
