The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reports that 35,916 Base Transceiver Stations (BTS) across all villages and sub-districts in Indonesia have strong signal reception. Java dominates the distribution of villages with the highest number of BTS with strong signals.

East Java is recorded as the province with the highest number of villages possessing BTS towers with strong signal reception, namely 4,665 villages or sub-districts.

Central Java is in second place with the most widespread distribution of BTS towers with strong signals, totaling 4,501 villages, followed by West Java with 4,366 villages possessing BTS towers.

Meanwhile, the provinces with the fewest villages possessing BTS towers with the strongest signal reception are North Kalimantan with 174 villages and West Sulawesi with 199 villages.

Currently, the government is targeting the provision of 4G internet access in 9,113 remote, outermost, and forward areas (3T). The Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo), through the Telecommunication and Information Accessibility Agency (BAKTI), is accelerating the construction of 4G Base Transceiver Stations (BTS).

"While 5G will be pursued more in industrial and urban areas," said Bambang Nugroho, Director of Infrastructure at BAKTI Kominfo, during a visit to a 4G BTS site in Selong Belanak, Central Lombok, on Wednesday (5/10), as quoted by *Katadata.co.id*.

He stated that the construction of BTS towers is assessed from a business perspective. "Especially in villages. Who will use (5G)?" he said.

OpenSignal conducted an analysis by examining the real-world mobile experiences of smartphone users in Indonesia on 3G, 4G, and 5G networks. OpenSignal then compared them in terms of download and upload speeds, video streaming experience, and multiplayer mobile gaming.

The results showed that the average download speed for Indonesian users reached 64.3 Megabits per second (Mbps) when connected to 5G. This is 3.9 times faster than 4G and 10.8 times faster than 3G. Indonesian users experienced an average upload speed of 19.6 Mbps when connected to 5G, or 2.6 times faster than when connected to a 4G network, which was only 7.4 Mbps.
