Forbes released its list of the world's highest-paid golfers in 2023. In its report titled "The World's 18 Highest-Paid Golfers 2023," Dustin Johnson topped the rankings.
The captain of the 4Aces GC LIV team is estimated to have earned US$111 million, or approximately Rp1.67 trillion (assuming Rp15,056 per US$), over the past year.
This income comprises US$106 million in on-course earnings and US$5 million in off-course earnings.
Despite his high earnings, Forbes reports that sponsorship offers for Dustin Johnson decreased significantly after he became the first major star to join LIV Golf, the Saudi Arabian-backed upstart league.
Phil Mickelson came in second, with total earnings of US$107 million, or approximately Rp1.61 trillion. He followed Dustin Johnson in joining LIV Golf.
Rory McIlroy ranked third with earnings of US$80 million, or approximately Rp1.2 trillion.
McIlroy won the FedEx Cup at the end of last season. Furthermore, he has built an investment business outside of golf, established in partnership with fellow golfer Tiger Woods.
Forbes tracked these golfers' earnings over the past 12 months, accumulating their on-course and off-course income.
On-course income comes from prize money and bonuses. Off-course income is derived from estimated values of sponsorship deals, appearance fees, memorabilia, and licensing revenue.
