The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 5.58 million cases by Friday, December 30, 2022. Angola recorded the highest increase in Omicron cases, with weekly growth reaching 35.34 percent. GISAID recorded 157 new Omicron cases in the country. Daily cases in this region increased by 35.34 percent compared to the previous day.
Next is Serbia, which recorded a 21.97 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous week. Daily Omicron cases in the country increased by 21.97 percent compared to the previous day.
Then, China (PRC) reported 879 additional Omicron cases (a 19.43% increase), Guatemala saw a 13.72 percent increase to 2,047 cases compared to the previous week, and Ecuador saw a 7.3 percent increase to 4,496 cases compared to the previous week.
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases reached 31,403, a 0.21 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
