The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 4.87 million cases by Saturday, August 13, 2022. The United States recorded the highest number of Omicron cases, with weekly growth reaching 2.64 percent. GISAID recorded 1.52 million Omicron cases in the US. Daily cases in this region increased by 0.26 percent compared to the previous day.
The United Kingdom follows with a weekly growth in Omicron cases of 0.7 percent. Daily Omicron cases in the UK increased by 0.07 percent compared to the previous day, totaling 1.27 million cases.
Furthermore, the number of Omicron cases in Germany increased by 10.54 percent to 404,510 cases compared to the previous week. Omicron cases in Denmark increased by 1.54 percent to 272,110 cases compared to the previous week, and in France, Omicron cases reached 229,500 (an increase of 18.81%).
As for Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases recorded to date is 18,206, a 1.02 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges all parties to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
