Indonesian Muslim consumers pay close attention to the presence of the halal logo when purchasing food and beverages.

This is based on findings from a Populix survey which revealed that 93% of respondents stated that the inclusion of a halal logo on food products is important. Therefore, this is a primary consideration for Muslim consumers when purchasing a product.

“Indonesian Muslim consumers prioritize the presence of the halal logo as the most important aspect before checking the packaging content of food products,” according to a report titled *Insight and Customer Perspective of Halal Industry in Indonesia*.

Other equally important factors considered when purchasing food products, according to the survey, include clear product information (90%), products meeting needs (85%), and environmentally friendly packaging (70%).

Meanwhile, other considerations such as domestically produced food products, refillable packaging, and products manufactured abroad had lower percentages, as shown in the chart above.

The survey also found that the main reasons Indonesian consumers choose products with a halal logo are because consumers feel safe (75%) and feel there is a guarantee of quality (63%). Some respondents also stated that buying products with a halal logo has become a principle in their lives (44%) and they are used to it (25%).

Despite the presence of a halal logo, the survey also showed that the majority of respondents still check the information on the raw materials used in food products. This consists of respondents who always check (47%), sometimes check (49%), and never check (4%).

This survey was conducted via the Populix application in March 2023, involving 1,014 Muslim respondents across Indonesia. The majority of respondents were workers with middle-class economic status.
