Can the Vice Presidential Candidate Influence the Choices of East Java Residents in the Election? This is the Survey.

Besides the presidential candidates (capres), the vice-presidential candidates (cawapres) can influence the choices of people in East Java in the 2024 General Election. This is evident from the results of a survey conducted by Politika Research & Consulting (PRC).

According to the PRC survey, the majority, or 86.3%, of respondents in East Java consider the position of the cawapres important in determining their choice of leader. The details show that 65% of respondents felt it was important, and 21.3% stated it was very important.

"This means that people in East Java truly want representation in the upcoming Presidential election," said PRC Executive Director Rio Prayogo in an online presentation of his survey on Sunday (17/9/2023).

On the other hand, 9.6% of East Java respondents considered the position of cawapres unimportant in determining their choice. This consists of respondents who answered unimportant (8.8%) and very unimportant (0.8%).

Furthermore, 4.1% of respondents did not know or did not answer.

PRC also conducted a survey on the electability of cawapres with a simulation of 7 names. As a result, Erick Thohir became the cawapres who received the highest votes from East Java respondents, namely 16.8%.

Below him is Ridwan Kamil who obtained an electability of 16.4%, followed by Muhaimin Iskandar or Cak Imin with 15.4% of the vote from respondents in the region.

This PRC survey involved 1,200 respondents aged 17 years and older or already married. The sample was taken proportionally from 38 regencies/cities in East Java Province.

Data collection was conducted from September 7-12, 2023, through face-to-face interviews. This survey has a margin of error of approximately 2.7% and a confidence level of 95%.
