How Does Indonesia's Ready-to-Wear Clothing Industry Export?

The improved economies of developed countries, particularly the United States (US), have had a positive impact on national textile exports. Data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) shows that Indonesia's ready-made garment industry exports in 2017 grew by 9.89% to US$7.93 billion, or approximately Rp 107 trillion, from the previous year. This figure exceeded the export value in 2011 and was the highest in the last 18 years.

Meanwhile, in terms of volume, exports of ready-made garments to foreign countries last year actually decreased by 0.43% to 447,000 tons. This decline is the fourth consecutive year since 2014. The volume of ready-made garment exports reached its highest level in 2013, at 470,000 tons.

For information, exports of ready-made garments (garment) from Indonesian textiles to the US in 2017 reached US$3.46 billion, or 51% of total exports valued at US$6.76 billion, equivalent to Rp 91 trillion. This figure increased by 11% from the previous year. However, the volume also decreased by 1.7% to 176,523 tons.
