Indonesia's Halal Food Index Score Ranks 4th in the World

The halal food industry in Indonesia is booming. According to the State of the Global Islamic Economy Report 2020/2021, Indonesia's halal food index ranks fourth with a score of 71.5 points. Malaysia holds the top spot with a score of 209.8.

Singapore is ranked second with a score of 125.2 points, followed by the United Arab Emirates in third place with a score of 104.4 points. Turkey ranks fifth with a score of 70.7 points.

In terms of consumption, Indonesia is the world's largest market for halal food products, valued at US$144 billion or Rp 2,046 trillion (using an exchange rate of Rp 14,208). The next largest markets are Bangladesh (US$107 billion) and Egypt (US$95 billion).

Indonesia's large halal food market presents an opportunity to increase halal food production, not only to meet domestic demand but also to tap into the ever-growing international market.

The State of the Global Islamic Economy Report ranks the completeness of the Islamic economic ecosystem in a country using several indicators. These indicators include Sharia finance, halal food, Muslim fashion, halal tourism, and halal cosmetics and pharmaceuticals.
