List of Traditional Products Purchased by Indonesian Consumers in 2024

According to the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), approximately 83.70% of households in Indonesia purchased or used traditional products in 2024.

Based on region, urban households were more likely to purchase or use them compared to rural households, namely 84.44% versus 82.64%.

By product type, household appliances were the most frequently purchased or used, accounting for 65.86% of surveyed households. Meanwhile, the least purchased or used traditional product was ritual equipment, at 5.80%.

The following is a list of traditional products purchased or used by households in Indonesia in 2024:

• Traditional household appliances: 65.86%
• Traditional medicine: 55.88%
• Traditional health methods: 48.31%
• Traditional crafts: 26.23%
• Regional/traditional clothing: 25.14%
• Traditional ritual equipment: 5.80%

BPS sees that the purchase of these products depends on the distribution of people's spending. People with high spending buy or use more traditional products.

“Households in the top 20% expenditure bracket had the highest percentage of purchasing/using traditional products compared to other expenditure brackets (bottom 40% and middle 40%),” said BPS in 2024 Social and Cultural Statistics report, quoted on Tuesday (3/6/2025).
