Bananas Become a Leading Horticultural Commodity in Lampung, Reaching 1.208 Million Tons in 2020

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reports that bananas are the largest horticultural commodity produced in Lampung Province. Production reached 1.208 million tons in 2020, down 0.05% from 1.209 million tons the previous year. Banana productivity in Lampung was 96.87 kg per bunch in 2020.

In addition to bananas, Lampung also produces a large quantity of pineapples. In 2020, production of this commodity was recorded at 662,600 tons, down 5.2% from 699,200 tons the previous year. Despite the decrease, pineapple production in Lampung ranked first nationally in 2020.

Lampung also produced 92,460 tons of papaya in 2020, down 12.4% from 105,600 tons the previous year. Furthermore, 37,900 tons of large chilies were produced in Lampung, a decrease of 5.3% compared to 40,100 tons the previous year.

Production of chili peppers in Lampung amounted to 10,560 tons, down 17.5% compared to 12,800 tons the previous year. Meanwhile, shallot production in Lampung was 2,100 tons in 2020, down 42.08% from 3,600 tons the previous year.

The leading horticultural commodities in Lampung Province are pineapples, papayas, and bananas. PT Great Giant Pineapple (GGP) is one of the largest companies supporting pineapple production in Lampung.
