National 2022 Rice Harvest Area Ranking by Province: East Java Takes the Lead

Based on data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), Indonesia's total harvested rice area reached 10.45 million hectares (ha) in 2022.

This area increased by 0.39% from the previous year, which was recorded at 10.41 million ha.

Along with the increase in the harvested area, Indonesia's rice production also increased by 0.61% (year-on-year/yoy) from 54.42 million tons of dry milled rice (GKG) in 2021 to 54.75 million tons of GKG last year.

East Java had the largest national harvested rice area, recording 1.69 million ha in 2022.

Central Java followed in second place with a harvested rice area of 1.68 million ha, followed by West Java with 1.66 million ha.

BPS also noted that out of 34 provinces, 12 provinces in Indonesia experienced an increase in harvested rice area this year, while 22 other provinces experienced a decrease.

West Java recorded the largest increase in harvested rice area, reaching 58,290 ha. This was followed by South Sulawesi and Lampung, which increased by 52,930 ha and 28,680 ha, respectively.

The following is a complete list of the 10 provinces with the largest harvested rice area in 2022, taken from the Area Sample Frame (KSA) survey by BPS:

1. East Java: 1,693,210 ha
2. Central Java: 1,688,670 ha
3. West Java: 1,662,400 ha
4. South Sulawesi: 1,038,080 ha
5. Lampung: 518,260 ha
6. South Sumatra: 513,380 ha
7. North Sumatra: 411,460 ha
8. Banten: 337,240 ha
9. West Sumatra: 271,880 ha
10. Aceh: 271,750 ha
