South Sumatra, Indonesia's Largest Duku Fruit Producing Province

Indonesia boasts a wealth of tropical fruits, one of which is duku. Duku exhibits significant variation in both tree and fruit characteristics.

Broadly speaking, there are two main groups of this fruit: those known as duku and those called langsat. Then there's another group called kokosan.

According to a report by the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), duku production in Indonesia reached 289,600 tons in 2020. This represents a 7.52% increase compared to the previous year's 269,300 tons.

In terms of producing regions, South Sumatra is the national duku production center, reaching 53,400 tons. South Sumatra is renowned for its duku production, particularly due to its sweeter taste and smaller seeds.

The Komering region (Ogan Komering Ulu and Ogan Komering Ilir Regencies) and several adjacent areas in South Sumatra are the largest duku producers in the province. Other producing areas include Kumpeh and Muaro Jambi in Jambi Province. Duku from these regions is marketed throughout Sumatra and Java, and even exported.

South Sulawesi ranks second in duku production with 38,900 tons, followed by Jambi (20,180 tons), North Sumatra (16,700 tons), and East Java (16,000 tons).
