Based on data from the National Strategic Food Price Information Center (PIHPSN) of Bank Indonesia, the average daily price of granulated sugar in the national market reached Rp16,600 per kilogram (kg) on Wednesday (November 8, 2023).
This figure is up 0.9% compared to the previous week, which was Rp16,450 per kg on Wednesday (November 1, 2023). Today's sugar price also recorded a 3.42% increase compared to the daily price last month, which was Rp16,050 per kg on Monday (October 9, 2023).
Looking at the graph, the price of granulated sugar has not decreased since the beginning of November. Meanwhile, in the period from October 9-31, the price of sugar only dropped once.
PIHPSN data also notes that the highest sugar prices were recorded in Central Kalimantan, averaging Rp19,000 per kg, and South Kalimantan at Rp17,550 per kg on Wednesday (November 8, 2023).
Meanwhile, the lowest prices were recorded in South Sulawesi at an average price of Rp12,850 per kg and West Nusa Tenggara at Rp13,150 per kg.
Citing *Katadata*, one factor contributing to the increase in domestic sugar prices is the rise in international sugar prices. International white sugar prices reached US$757.8 per ton on Tuesday (November 7, 2023), the highest since May 2023, based on data accessed from the International Sugar Organization website.
The Indonesian Food and Beverage Producers Association (Gapmmi) previously estimated that the prices of processed food and beverage products would increase by up to 7% at the beginning of 2024 due to the increase in raw sugar prices in the global market.
"I estimate that the selling price for the food and beverage industry will increase by around 3-7%. If the increase is too high, it will usually affect sales," said Gapmmi Chairman General Adhi S Lukman to Katadata.co.id, Thursday (October 12).
