In Kaltara, the Price of Low-Quality Rice is Equivalent to Premium Rice

Based on data from the National Strategic Food Price Information Center (PIHPS), the price of low-quality grade II rice in North Kalimantan (Kaltara) reaches Rp 12,250/kg. This figure is the highest compared to prices in other provinces and is also above the average price of Rp 9,817/kg.

The price of low-quality grade II rice in Kaltara is almost equivalent to the Highest Retail Price (HET) of premium rice in Java, Lampung, and South Sumatra, which is Rp 12,800/kg. People in this province, a newly established region from East Kalimantan and bordering Malaysia, have to pay significantly more for low-quality rice compared to other areas.

The government finally set the HET for rice based on medium, premium, and special categories, with price setting divided into eight major regions. This HET for rice is effective from September 1, 2017.
