Top 10 Sugarcane Producing Countries in the World

Sugarcane is one of the world's most important crops. One of its processed products is sugar, a staple food in Indonesia.

First discovered in Papua New Guinea, sugarcane is now widely cultivated in many countries. Among the many sugarcane-producing countries, ten are recorded as the highest producers.

Based on data from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Indonesia is one of the world's largest sugarcane producers. In 2020, Indonesia's sugarcane production ranked ninth globally, totaling 28.9 million tons.

Indonesia's sugarcane production is significantly lower than that of Brazil, which holds the top position. Brazil produced 757.1 million tons of sugarcane in 2020.

India is in second place with 370.5 million tons. This is followed by China and Pakistan, with production of 108.1 million tons and 81 million tons respectively.

Thailand follows in the next position with 74.9 million tons of sugarcane production. Meanwhile, Mexico's sugarcane production was recorded at 53.9 million tons.

The next largest sugarcane-producing countries are the United States with 32.7 million tons, followed by Australia and Guatemala with 30.2 million tons and 28.3 million tons respectively.
