According to the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), the national rice harvest area reached 10,213,705 hectares (ha) in 2023, a decrease of 2.29% year-on-year (yoy).
Indonesia's largest rice harvests are predominantly produced in provinces on Java and Sumatra islands.
In 2023, East Java had the largest rice harvest area, reaching 1,698,083 ha or 16.62% of the total national rice harvest area.
The second and third positions were also occupied by Javanese provinces, namely Central Java and West Java. Banten also ranked eighth on this list.
Furthermore, four provinces from Sumatra, namely Lampung, South Sumatra, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra, also made it into the top 10 provinces with the largest national rice harvests.
Meanwhile, the smallest rice harvest came from the Pegunungan Papua province, at only 14 ha. This was followed by the Riau Islands with 115 ha and DKI Jakarta with 543 ha.
