According to the Ministry of Agriculture's data, the area of ??rice harvested land in 2017 increased by 4.17% to 15.79 million hectares (ha). This figure consists of 14.63 million ha of paddy field and 1.16 million ha of upland rice fields. East Java has the largest area of ??harvested rice land, at 2.29 million ha, or about 15% of the total land area. According to the second forecast, East Java can produce up to 13.13 million tons.
The province with the second largest harvested land area is West Java, at 2.12 million ha (13.44%), followed by Central Java with 2.01 million ha (12.74%). Based on this data, Indonesian rice harvest land is still concentrated on Java Island, with a total area reaching 7 million ha, or almost half of the national rice harvest land.
Meanwhile, the areas with the smallest harvested land area are Maluku and Papua, at only 114,000 ha. These two regions have the lowest rice production. The low supply makes the price of rice in Papua and Maluku more expensive than in other regions.
