Indonesia's national oil palm plantation area reached 15.08 million hectares in 2021.

The area of palm oil plantations in Indonesia from 2017 to 2021 showed an increasing trend. The Ministry of Agriculture recorded that the area of palm oil plantations reached 15.08 million hectares (ha) in 2021.

This area increased by 1.5% compared to the previous year, which was 14.8 million ha. Of the 15.08 million ha, the majority (8.42 million ha or 55.8%) was owned by Large Private Plantations (PBS). Then, People's Plantations (PR) accounted for 6.08 million ha (40.34%), and State-Owned Large Plantations (PBN) for 579,600 ha (3.84%).

The Ministry of Agriculture also recorded national palm oil production at 49.7 million tons in 2021. This figure increased by 2.9% from the previous year's 48.3 million tons.

Palm oil plantations are spread across 26 provinces in Indonesia. Riau province has the largest palm oil plantation area with 2.89 million ha in 2021, or 19.16% of the total palm oil plantation area in the country.

Palm oil production in Riau reached 10.27 million tons in 2021. This is the largest in Indonesia and contributes 20.66% to national palm oil production.
