Top 10 Largest Chicken Meat Producing Countries in the World: The United States Takes the Lead

Chicken meat is one of the most popular protein sources worldwide. Given its high consumption, several countries are capable of producing large quantities of chicken meat.

According to a report by the Foreign Agricultural Service, the United States is the world's largest producer of chicken meat. In 2020, the country produced 20.25 million metric tons of chicken meat. This figure represents a 1.55% increase compared to the previous year, which saw production of 19.94 million metric tons. The United States also boasts the highest chicken meat consumption, reaching 17 million metric tons last year.

Besides the United States, China is also a major chicken meat producer. Its production ranks second globally, reaching 14.6 million metric tons last year. Following China are Brazil and the European Union, producing 13.8 million metric tons and 11.02 million metric tons of chicken meat, respectively.

The next largest chicken meat producers are Russia, with 4.67 million metric tons; Mexico, with 3.6 million metric tons; Thailand and Argentina, each with 3.3 million metric tons and 2.22 million metric tons, respectively.

Turkey ranks eighth, producing 2.14 million metric tons of chicken meat. This is followed by Japan with 1.77 million metric tons and Peru with 1.73 million metric tons.

Global chicken meat production reached 99.08 million metric tons in 2020. This represents a 2% increase compared to the previous year's 97.21 million metric tons.
