East Java, Indonesia's Largest Rice Producer in 2021

East Java was the largest rice-producing province in 2021. According to data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), East Java produced 9.90 million tons of milled rice (GKG) in 2021. This figure is down 0.36% compared to the previous year's 9.94 million tons of GKG.

Central Java followed with rice production of 9.76 million tons of GKG, an increase of 2.9% from the previous year's 9.48 million tons of GKG. Meanwhile, rice production in West Java reached 9.35 million tons of GKG, a 3.7% increase from the previous year's 9.01 million tons of GKG.

The provinces with the lowest rice production were Riau Islands (961.52 tons), DKI Jakarta (3,460 tons), and West Papua (25,300 tons).

In terms of harvested area, East Java, Central Java, and West Java had the largest harvests in Indonesia. The harvested area for rice in East Java was recorded at 1.75 million hectares in 2021. The harvested area for rice in Central Java and West Java was 1.7 million hectares and 1.62 million hectares, respectively.

Significant increases in rice production in 2021 occurred in South Sulawesi, West Java, and Central Java. Significant decreases in rice production occurred in South Sumatra, Lampung, and South Kalimantan.
