Indonesia Became the Largest Global Palm Oil Producer by 2025/2026

Based on data from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), the global production volume of palm oil is estimated to reach 80.71 million metric tons in the 2025/2026 harvest season.

"The price of Indonesian palm oil exceeds the price of South American soybean oil due to the narrowing of the price gap between palm oil and oil and gas driven by the B40 policy in Indonesia," wrote the USDA in its report on Oilseeds: World Markets and Trade.

During this period, Indonesia is projected to be the country with the largest production of palm oil globally, with an estimated production of 46.7 million metric tons, or 58% of total global production.

Here is a list of the five countries with the largest production of palm oil in the world in the 2025/2026 harvest season, according to USDA projections:

1. Indonesia: 46.7 million metric tons
2. Malaysia: 20.2 million metric tons
3. Thailand: 3.38 million metric tons
4. Colombia: 2 million metric tons
5. Nigeria: 1.5 million metric tons

Meanwhile, the combined production of palm oil from other countries is 6.93 million metric tons.

For the record, this USDA data refers to different harvest and marketing years in each country.

For Indonesia, Malaysia, Colombia, and Nigeria, the 2025/2026 palm oil harvest season refers to the 12-month period from October 2025 to February 2026.

While in Thailand, the 2025/2026 harvest season refers to January 2025 to February 2026.
