Indonesia has consistently experienced a surplus of chicken eggs in recent years.
According to data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), the production volume of commercial chicken eggs in Indonesia in 2025 reached 6.53 million tons.
Meanwhile, the national demand or consumption of commercial chicken eggs in that year was 6.36 million tons, resulting in a significant production surplus.
"The production of commercial chicken eggs by poultry farmers can meet the needs throughout 2025 because there is a surplus almost every month," said BPS in its report.
"Cumulatively or as the ending stock in December 2025, there was a surplus of commercial chicken eggs of 171,40 thousand tons," it continued.
A similar trend has consistently occurred in previous years, where chicken egg production has always exceeded demand, as can be seen in the graph.
The lowest surplus of chicken eggs was recorded in 2021, when Indonesia was hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. However, after that, the surplus tended to increase.
Here are the details of the surplus or excess production of commercial chicken eggs in Indonesia during the period 2020-2025, according to BPS data:
