Indonesia Enters Ranks of Largest Global Wheat Consumers 2024/2025

According to data from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), global wheat consumption volume reached 809.13 million metric tons in the 2024/2025 marketing year.

During that period, Indonesia ranked 13th as the country with the largest wheat consumption in the world, at 10.7 million metric tons.

The top position was held by China, with consumption reaching 150 million metric tons, equivalent to 18.5% of total global consumption.

Below is a list of the top 15 countries with the largest wheat consumption volume in the world in the 2024/2025 marketing year:

• China: 150 million metric tons

• European Union: 109 million metric tons

• India: 108.76 million metric tons

• Russia: 40 million metric tons

• Pakistan: 31.2 million metric tons

• United States: 31.03 million metric tons

• Egypt: 20 million metric tons

• Turkey: 19.4 million metric tons

• Iran: 16.9 million metric tons

• United Kingdom: 15,025,000

• Brazil: 12.2 million metric tons

• Algeria: 11.95 million metric tons

• Indonesia: 10.7 million metric tons

• Afghanistan: 9.5 million metric tons

• Morocco: 9.4 million metric tons.

It should be noted that the USDA's 2023/2024 marketing year data globally refers to the 12-month period from July 2024-June 2024, including for Indonesia.

However, some countries have different trade patterns.

For example, in India and Iran, the 2024/2024 season refers to the 12-month period from April 2024-March 2025.

Meanwhile, the marketing season for South America and Morocco refers to June 2024-May 2025, Brazil to October 2024-September 2025, and Pakistan to May 2024-April 2025.
