Distribution of Indonesian Palm Oil Plantation Companies in 2024

According to the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), in 2024 there were 2,285 palm oil plantation companies in Indonesia.

Of this number, 93.09% or 2,127 companies are large private plantations. Meanwhile, 6.91% or 158 companies are state-owned large plantations.

These companies are spread across 29 Indonesian provinces. West Kalimantan has the highest number of palm oil plantation companies in Indonesia.

Here are the top 10 provinces with the most palm oil plantation companies in Indonesia in 2024:

1. West Kalimantan: 352 companies
2. North Sumatra: 327 companies
3. East Kalimantan: 268 companies
4. Riau: 228 companies
5. Central Kalimantan: 216 companies
6. South Sumatra: 188 companies
7. Jambi: 144 companies
8. Aceh: 103 companies
9. South Kalimantan: 100 companies
10. Bangka Belitung Islands: 67 companies

Based on island, the most palm oil plantations are located on Sumatra and Kalimantan, with percentages of 52.69% and 42.71% respectively.

BPS stated that on Sumatra Island, palm oil plantations are concentrated in North Sumatra, Riau, and South Sumatra provinces.

Meanwhile, on Kalimantan Island, the percentage of palm oil plantation companies in each province ranges from 22% to 36% of all palm oil plantations on the island.

"Except for South Kalimantan Province at 10% and North Kalimantan Province at 4% of all palm oil companies on Kalimantan Island," said BPS in the 2024 Palm Oil Plantation Company Directory.
