According to data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), Indonesia imported 4.5 million tons of rice in 2024.

This figure surged 47.6% compared to 2023 (year-on-year) and represents the highest record in the last eight years, as shown in the graph.

Compared to 2017, Indonesia's rice imports in 2024 skyrocketed by 1,380%, or approximately 15 times higher.

In 2024, Thailand was the largest supplier of rice to Indonesia, with a volume of 1.36 million tons, or 30% of total national imports.

"Domestic rice stocks are very sufficient, so this year we are not importing rice. Until August, rice stocks are secure and production is on the track and continues to increase," said Amran, as reported by Antara, Sunday (24/8/2025).

Amran projected that national rice production this year could reach between 33.8 million and 35.6 million tons.

He also mentioned that the government's rice buffer stock (CBP) managed by Perum Bulog currently reaches 4.2 million tons, the highest record in 57 years.
